Chapter 10: Deep Sea Anomalies
Finally, we saw that glowing object. What exactly is this? I can hardly believe my eyes; the creature before me is truly bizarre. It is something the size of a basin, resembling a flower bud, with its petals tightly closed.
The place that just emitted light is this object, which is now flickering with a red glow, illuminating both my and Heizi's faces in a bright red. Surrounding it are some longer plankton-like organisms, resembling seaweed, yet distinct from it.
These organisms seem to possess vitality, and their shapes are quite peculiar, resembling springs as they swim in circles. These entities gently coil around us, as if they are aware of our presence right before them
I saw that green ghostly thing, and it seemed like some kind of creature was moving inside. I immediately raised my hand holding the spear gun and shot at it without hesitation, regardless of whether it would be effective or not; it was better to act first and think later
In the end, I gritted my teeth and thought to hell with it, I was going all out. I removed the oxygen tank and summoned all my strength, cutting through these things while pulling the black object out. Just as I was about to pull the black object out, that green ghostly thing had already reached its side
Oh my, what is this? Heizi has also reacted. We quickly rushed towards the surface of the water. I pulled Heizi upstream, but suddenly, I felt a powerful force pulling me down, as if it wanted to drag me to the bottom of the sea. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't rise up.
After marching for about ten minutes, I realized that the chains binding us had become too short, likely reaching their limit. The same was true for Kuroko. If we were to continue moving forward, we would have to unfasten the chains.
The two of us freed ourselves from the chains and continued to march forward, but I suddenly noticed a problem: despite swimming for such a long time, the light ahead seemed to be getting further away. What could be the reason for this? Could it be an illusion?
However, those things resembling seaweed are increasing in number. No matter how I cut them, they grow back rapidly. I can see that green, ghastly mass approaching, and Heizi is on the verge of losing his mind. He keeps writhing his entire body, emitting a struggle as if he were on the brink of death, yet no matter what he does, he cannot break free.
Hezi's body was in a parallel position, and the green substance had already covered his feet. I saw Hezi struggling in pain, and as I held onto his hand, I could feel his entire body trembling incessantly. I gathered my strength and suddenly pulled Hezi out of the seaweed pile.
My feet kept swinging incessantly, while Heizi lay still like a corpse. At that moment, I felt as if my lungs were about to explode; the lack of oxygen caused my brain to become sluggish and unresponsive. Just as my consciousness began to fade, I finally broke through the surface of the sea
A pained expression appeared on Heiko's face. I knew that he had run out of oxygen. Holding one's breath underwater is much more difficult than above water. If we cannot leave this place immediately, within two minutes, we will suffer brain death due to lack of oxygen.
He gestured to me, asking, "What should we do? Should we go over?" I pondered for a moment, steeled my resolve, and gestured back, "Let's go over." Since we had come this far, a little more time wouldn't matter. What if there was a sunken ship ahead? At least we wouldn't have gone into the water for nothing.
At that moment, I saw that face suddenly open its eyes and widen its mouth. I clearly heard a sound emanating from its mouth, a sound that was both painful and fearful, as if the howling came straight from hell.
In the depths of the ocean, how could there be such brightness? Heizi nudged me and pointed ahead, clearly having seen it as well. I gestured to him, indicating that we should go take a look. Heizi nodded, and the two of us swam towards the light.
I exchanged a glance with Heizi, both of us somewhat puzzled about what was happening. I had only heard of mirages before, but never of deep-sea illusions. At that moment, the light source ahead suddenly reappeared, flickering rapidly, and it was not very far from us, losing that distant feeling we had just experienced.
I pointed to the oxygen tank and tapped my wrist, gesturing that there was not much time left, so we needed to go quickly and return swiftly. He understood quite well, giving me an OK sign. We both quickened our pace and continued to sneak forward, the light source ahead growing ever closer. Both of us felt a surge of excitement, exchanging glances that reflected our exhilaration. However, none of us realized that danger was gradually approaching us.
He quickly took a look around; apart from some seaweed and plankton, there wasn't even a small fish in sight. Neither of us found any creatures similar to it, at least not within the illuminated area. As for whether there were any in the distance, that remains unclear.
I hurriedly turned my head to take a glance; it was bad news. Heizi was entangled by something resembling seaweed, struggling in pain. However, he tightly gripped the flashlight in his hand. I had no time to think; I had to rush over to save him. I drew the paratrooper knife I had prepared on my leg and quickly went to cut through these things. At that moment, I noticed that the mass of green was slowly approaching us.
When Heizi saw this, his eyes went wide, and he stood completely still, as if he were stunned with fear. I didn't dare to stay any longer; the oxygen was quickly running out. I hurriedly grabbed his arm, intending to take him away from here.
These things that resemble seaweed are clinging to him like the vengeful spirits in a picture book, refusing to let go. At this critical moment, the damn oxygen suddenly ran out. I indicated the seriousness of the situation; there is no oxygen in the deep water, which is simply a matter of life and death for us
Then, I hurriedly grabbed his arm and swam upstream. It was a tragic journey for me; it seemed as if Hei Zi had lost consciousness. His heavy weight quickly became unbearable for me. If I were to let him go now, I would surely escape, but I could not do that. I had abandoned a comrade once during my service, and that remains a pain I carry for life. No matter what, I must bring Hei Zi to the surface.
This light seems to possess some kind of magic; I have discovered that one cannot stare at it. It constantly draws you in, and it appears that one cannot linger in this place for long. It is necessary to leave quickly, as the oxygen is also running low, and at most, I can hold on for another ten minutes.
I have a bad feeling in my heart; everything seems too strange. I have never encountered such a situation before. Heizi also felt very curious. We exchanged glances and nodded, deciding to go and see what was going on. I noticed the oxygen tank, which had less than half an hour of oxygen left, so we needed to go and return quickly.
When he touched it, it was no big deal; suddenly, this object emitted a green light, and the petals began to open little by little. I glanced forward, and just that one glance startled me so much that I shivered all over. After the petals opened, inside, along with the book, was actually a human face.
I cast a questioning glance at Heizi, who shook his head repeatedly, indicating that he too did not know what this thing was. I gestured for him to use the light to look around and see if there were any creatures like it present.
When I called out to Heizi, intending to return, it seemed that Heizi was oblivious. He reached out to touch that object, and I couldn't bring myself to shout. I was so anxious that I could only whimper. Just as I was about to stop him, it was already too late; his hand had already made contact with that object.
My ears can hardly take it anymore, and Heizi quickly covered his ears with both hands, his expression one of agony. Immediately after, with a loud 'bang', a mass of green substance erupted from that mouth, instantly contaminating the surrounding seawater
Just as I was filled with doubt, the light ahead suddenly vanished, as if it had disappeared in an instant, as though it had never appeared at all. In the deep sea, apart from the illumination of the black spot, there were no other sources of light.
Deep beneath the sea, there exists a peculiar creature that truly sends chills down one's spine, especially as it emits a red glow. In all my years, I have never encountered a luminescent plant; its existence has shattered my previous understanding.
The face is clearly visible, with even the wrinkles on it discernible. Its eyes are closed, as if it is asleep. What is most alarming, however, is that this face is actually green, which adds an extra layer of terror. What on earth is this monster
